Hi, I’m Charlotte Pye. I am a second year Education Student and I’m running to be Academic Experience Officer. I am very involved within the SU as I am currently Subject Rep for Education and Early Childhood Studies. I have lots of ideas to help improve academics at the university.
What are these improvements?
Improved timetabling to allow room for societies and sports
I want to work the university as I feel that there is still more room to help improve timetabling to allow students to be involved in societies and sports as this a big concern when students cannot participate due to scheduling.
Mentoring system to allow support within all levels between students
I want to create a system where all levels within a course can meet and discuss any concerning issues such as picking modules for the next year, how to approach dissertations or even any career choices.
I believe this would be a massive help as the leap from one level to the next can be quite daunting and I hope that this system would help make choosing options a lot less stressful.
Regular academic writing and referencing workshops
When I first joined the university I had been out of education for almost 3 years and I had no idea how to write an essay. There has been a large amount of feedback where a lot of students feel the same way. It is very hard to know if your grammar or even structure is correct - and even scarier when you are being graded on this.
I believe that if regular workshops were run then everyone could take advantage of this. If it is for a dissertation, research or even your first assignment.
