ASHA SUTTON

Hey! My name is Asha Sutton and I am a third year Creative Writing student. I am a senior student ambassador and lifestyle editor for the university's society.

I believe that students at the university should be fully supported and have as many services available as possible. I aim to maintain some of the great ideas that already exist, but also make this role my own. This would be by focusing on areas I feel passionate about.

  • Bringing societies together

There is already a good level of integration between bigger socieities, which is fantastic. I'd like to make sure that smaller socieites have the same opportunites in order to unleash a wave of social and academic possibilities.

I aim to acheive this by setting up taster sessions for multiple societies and also to meet Presidents/Club captains at the same time in order to bring them together.

  • Support sessions

I believe that individuals who have a disability, physical or mental health issue should all have the same fair access to support services.

I would like to set up weekly sessions at each campus so that students can talk and/or meet people who are experiencing similar issues. I'd like every student to know they're not alone at this university.

  • Course buddy system

For first years, the workload and adapting to university life can feel overwhelming. I aim to continue implementing this into more schools within the university to support as many students as possible.

I would contact the Head of schools to help me find second and third years to volunteer for this system. Then, I would work with lecturers to pair up first years with those students.

I want to give back to the university that has helped shape me over the last couple of years.
