#NeverOK May/June Update
Asha and the Student Voice Team continued to have conversations with the Head of Student Wellbeing on Active Bystander Training and the Sexual Harassment Policy Work. The hope is that the policy work will be completed for the new academic year in September
SU staff undertook a one-day Active Bystander Training programme in June. This is where we spoke about university specific scenarios and what the best way to approach it was, looking at rape culture on campus and unacceptable behaviour and language and workshop tasks to complete. We would like to train our student groups in their induction, but we are also in further conversations about how training can be provided to the wider student community.
We provided anti-spiking devices at both of our Awards Ceremonies, and continued to raise the visibility of our ongoing #Neverok campaign
Asha met with the Welfare Officer at Essex SU to discuss Student Safety at both Unions, and how both Unions can work closely together
Exploring having campaign specific posters around campus for September to highlight the aim of the campaign and how students can access resources and support
Putting a focus on #Neverok into the Welcome booklet for September
The outgoing officers giving input into Welcome 2022, particularly looking at the Night-time Venues, integrating the campaign into the whole Welcome period and replicating self-defence classes for new and returning students
Asha leading on her last #Neverok focus group, where discussions were had about things like Welcome 2022 and what progress had been made on the campaign aims and pledges
