At UoGSU we celebrate and value our diverse community - we're a community of thousands of people from across the globe who call Cheltenham and Gloucester our home. UoGSU absolutely condemns acts of violence and racism which seek to divide people.
One of UoGSU's core values is inclusivity, we say that "We advocate for equity. Everyone is welcome at UoG, and we’ve got your back — regardless of your background or identity." The UK is often spoken about as a tolerant nation, and we know that for many people the rhetoric we've seen will absolutely run counter to their views and opinions.
We have been shocked and disturbed by the scenes we have witnessed in towns and cities across the UK over the past week and we stand by those affected by violence and targeted by those who seek to stoke hatred. As a University, UoG have a range of support on offer to any affected which you can find more information about on MyGlos: https://my.glos.ac.uk/dashboard/health-and-wellbeing
During this time, we'd encourage you to check in with friends and family who may be anxious about what they're seeing. You may also wish to think about avoiding areas of known disturbance and, should you choose to go out you might feel more comfortable going with a friend. We'd also encourage you to think carefully about information you're seeing online and use tools to check facts before sharing anything with other people, a great tool to use is Full Fact which you can see here: https://fullfact.org."
