UoG Men’s Football Club

Last season was an incredible one for UoG Men’s Football on and off the pitch. Our 1st team won an illustrious Treble which had never been done before in the university's history. Losing one game in the league and gaining promotion to Western tier 1A then winning the cup with a 2-0 victory against UWE and finally finishing the treble with a 1-0 victory against Worcester in Varsity. This year, they will want to replicate that success - striving for another strong campaign and aiming to finish the season in style with back to back Varsity wins against Worcester.

Our 3rd team narrowly missed out on the Western Tier 6A Title but still had a very succesful season in a competitive league featuring both Uog Mens Football 4th team (UDA) and Uog Mens Football 5th team. They were our highest scoring team scoring an impressive 47 goals across all competitions and they have earned promotion to Western Tier 5. With a strong and determined squad they are hoping to compete right at the top of the league and will relish the new challenge of being promoted into a tougher league.

The UoG Men’s Football 5th team, who also compete in Tier 6, enjoyed a solid mid-table finish last season and were even nicknamed "The Fun Fives" due to their entertaining games and their attacking play style they really were enjoyable to watch and were fan favourites. This year they are looking to build momentum and challenge for promotion doing it their way.

Off the pitch was very succesful as everyone in the club came together to really build an amazing club atmosphere with brilliant effort and attendance at socials, fundraisers and training. Topping this togetherness off with our own fundraiser where we raised just under £1000 pound to mens mental health, many of our members ran a 5k everyday and then did a campus to campus run (half marathon) to finish our month of fundraising. We were delighted as a club to raise this amount of money for a really important cause close to the clubs heart. All of our efforts resulted in us winning the SU Club of the Year award an award we are extremely proud of. We also had few of our members winning a few awards too finish off an unbelieveable year as a club.

And of course, our Wednesdays wouldn’t be complete without social night — the highlight of the week! It’s a chance for every team to come together and celebrate as a club  with creative fancy dress in true UoG style. 

This year, we have big ambitions both on and off the pitch, and we’d love your support throughout the season!
