Recap of our first semester𝜗ৎ

Quick recap of our very first semester as a society!

Societies
First night out!

It's been an eventful first semester for our new society! We wanted to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has supported us and come along to our sessions, it would not be possible without you all!

We started off the semester strong with the Freshers Fayre, we gave out stickers and braceletes, we recieved loads of interest and support, with over 40 people joining our WhatsApp group. We managed to start making connections and put ourselves out there as a society! 𝜗ৎ

Our first few sessions consisted of introductions, colouring, friendship bracelets, and more! Our calm laid back events are always a favourite of the members. The first friendship bracelet making session was our biggest meeting yet, with almost 30 participants.

Excitement started to bubble up in the society as Taylor Swift released her new album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, majority of the society went and saw the special screenings in cinema, and we had a listening party to discuss the album and talk about our favourites. There were definitely some songs that topped our societies charts, including “The Fate of Ophelia”, “Opalite”, and “Honey”. We recommend going and listening to the album if you have not already! It is an album to get you up and dancing ♡

Our society had its first night out during October, and it was one to remember. MooMoos Clubroom in Cheltenham hosts Skint Mondays every week, our society went along to the Taylor Swift themed night, with Taylor masks, and a night full of pop songs, surrounding Swifties favourites. We recieved a lot of amazing comments, including “I have been at this university for years and this is definitely the best night out I have been on”. It was a successful night, and we hope MooMoos hosts another pop music night!

Another member favourite has been our quiz nights, from Kahoot to Catchphrase (Taylor’s Version). We hope to do many more of these in future, with our favourite part giving out the prizes at the end, which are usually Taylor Swift themed! Some of members are stacked up on Taylor Trivia facts and love to get competitive >⩊<

Our first ever joint social was with the UoG Climbing Society, they hosted a ‘cops and robbers’ style pub crawl around Cheltenham, starting off at Frog and Fiddle, ending in Moon under water. One group were humans, and the other zombies, our society was a part of the human group! Challenges included games like Rock, Paper, Scissors, and matching drinks with partners. Unfortunately, some of our members got caught and turned into zombies, but some of us did make it out alive ♬⋆.˚

We also hosted a movie night watching the Miss Americana documentary, it is amazing to see the behind the scenes of the singers that we love, to see that they are just like us. It also reminds us of why we love Taylor so much. It was a film that changed people's minds about Taylor, and it is a favourite of our members to rewatch.

Our second joint social was fun filled with t-shirt painting, in collaboration with the Art society. Everyone had an amazing time and everyones shirts turned out stunning, we had a mixture of Taylor swift designs, to Doctor Who, it was night for everyone to bring their interests onto a canvas, we are excited to do another crafty session. ฅ^>⩊<^ ฅ

Our first outside of university trip was a mini trip to the Cheltenham Ice Rink, it was a Christmassy night, and very seasonal. There were a few tumbles, but everyone enjoyed themselves and got right back up, with some of our members showing of their skating talents.

Over the semester, we have been working really hard on our socials, and we were ecstatic to receive best marketed society of November 2025, we were very proud and had some drinks at Bentleys in celebration. It made us feel very accomplished, as just 4 months ago, this society did not even exist, and now we are winning some monthly awards from the SU, we are aiming to keep going and try and build our society to the best they can be, whilst learning from others. We set up a stall on one of the open days, unfortunately there was not that many people, but we did give some great help to future students with enquiries about societies!

Throughout the semester, we have had multiple committee meetings, to keep the society running smoothly, and already have a plan to make ourselves even better. We sent out a feedback form to the members, asking for honest feedback, we got some great responses:

“The current set up seems pretty strong”

 “I’m loving it”

 “It is running smoothly”

We also got some feedback on what people would like to see more, and we are listening! We have got some exciting things planned for semester 2, all which listen to the feedback we got!

We are coming to the end of the semester, with only one session left, a Christmas movie night! We hope to see everyone there! If not, see you in 2026!
