Black History Month is a time to celebrate Black history, culture, achievements and the contributions Black people have made to UoG communities and society. It is also an opportunity to learn, share experiences and recognise the importance of representation, inclusion and belonging.

Black History Month Hall of Fame

The Black History Month Hall of Fame is a way of celebrating Black students, staff who have made a positive difference within the University and wider community.

It gives us the opportunity to recognise their achievements, contributions and the impact they have made.

Why are we doing it?

Black History Month is a time to celebrate Black history, culture and achievements, but celebrating Black excellence should not stop at the end of October.

The Hall of Fame gives us a chance to recognise people within our own University community and share the positive work they are doing.

How can I nominate someone?

Students and staff can nominate a Black student, member of staff  they feel deserves to be recognised.

This could be someone who has made a difference through their achievements, leadership, supporting others, advocacy or contribution to the University or wider community.

How will people be selected?

Once nominations close, a judging panel will review all the nominations.

They will look at the person’s:

  • Positive impact and contribution
  • Leadership and support for others
  • Work around inclusion and advocacy
  • Achievements

Anyone selected will be contacted before their name, photo or story is included in the Hall of Fame.

The selected individuals will be recognised at our Black History Month celebration and featured in the Hall of Fame display.
