The Students’ Union Varsity series 2026 has now come to an end. The week delivered everything it promised and more, as 18 fixtures across six action-packed days showcased the very best of our SU sports clubs. From big wins to unforgettable moments on and off the pitch, this year’s Varsity truly embodied this year’s campaign: #OWNTHEMOMENT.

Across the week, all of our student-led teams competed with passion, pride and resilience, summing up the #TEAMGLOS spirit. Win or lose, the atmosphere at every fixture reflected what the SU Varsity series is all about! Togetherness, commitment, and shared moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Freya Rowley – SU Activities and Opportunities Officer: What a week Varsity was.... UoG students really came out in force to support one another and show everyone what it means to rather be a cheese! Before entering into the SU Varsity series, I knew that our students were passionate and competitive, but if I've learnt one thing, it's how much they love being part of the incredible TeamGlos community. Win or lose at each fixture there was a collective buzz, team mates and friends lifting one another and celebrating their talents. Spectators showed up with incredible signs, noise and plenty of support. While we may not have taken home the win, I can say with confidence that UoG students had a better week than the sauce, enjoying every event to its fullest and coming together as one team.”

Student spectator feedback: “That day, at Gloucester Arena was awesome because the energy was electric! The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Plus, it was a great opportunity to bond with friends and create lasting memories. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, camaraderie, and pure fun!”

There were standout successes across a range of sports, with Varsity victories claimed by: Tennis, Men's Volleyball, Men's Football, Men's Rugby Union, Dance, and Men's Basketball.

A special mention goes to our Men's Basketball team, who secured what is quite possibly their first Varsity win, providing the perfect finale to an exciting week of SU sport.

Thank you to everyone who played their part in making this this years SU Varsity series, a Varsity to remember. We can't wait for next year! Thanks all – UoG Students’ Union.
