Candidate for the position of Elections - Activities and Opportunities Officer

Freya Rowley

For the best of TeamGlos #VOTEFREYA

I’m Freya, and I’m proud to be running for a second term as your Activities and Opportunities Officer!

This year I've delivered real and tangible change, improved opportunities across sports, societies and events, allowing students to truly feel part of #TeamGlos.

What I Delivered This Year:

During my first year, I’ve introduced initiatives that increased participation, recognised student leaders and supported students with the cost of living. Let’s break it down:

  • SU Food Bank - supporting students who need extra help.
  • TeamGlos Points - a reward scheme for sports clubs and societies, partnered with Domino’s, helping strengthen the TeamGlos community.
  • Free cooking classes with local restaurants - helping students cook affordable meals and learn new skills.
  • Bringing back bars at large SU events - improving the atmosphere and experience of major student events.
  • Student Leader Accreditation - recognising the transferable skills gained through committee roles.

If re-elected, I will continue and expand these initiatives, specifically supporting the cost of living, as I've seen firsthand the struggles our students face.

What I’ll Deliver Next:

 Expanding Sport & Society Opportunities

  • Cross-campus 5-a-side football leagues to encourage participation and connection.
  • Society Varsity to celebrate the talent and creativity across societies.
  • Introduce a Recreational Sport Committee to help clubs redefine their non-competitive sport offerings.

Bringing Back the Summer Ball

  • A huge end-of-year celebration with music, food and friends from across the university.

Making Activities More Accessible

  • Lobby for free sports and society memberships for postgraduate students through the Postgrad+ scheme.
  • Increase the SU Access Fund to help more undergraduate students take part in competitive sport.

Support for Students

  • Student-led inclusion and belonging training with welfare representatives.
  • SU Social Media Intern roles to provide experience and promote activities.
  • Work with the community to create more creative arts, performance and event spaces for students.

Why Re-Elect Me?

You’ve already seen the passion I’ve brought to this role, and I’m not finished yet.

This year, I’ve turned ideas into action. With another term, I’ll keep building opportunities and making student life exciting, inclusive and accessible for everyone.

For the best of TeamGlos
