A look at the Student Paramedic Society's successful start to 2026, featuring a social event, a professional visit and expert-led seminar.
The Student Paramedic Society has enjoyed an exciting and engaging start to 2026, with a series of events that have brought members together socially and academically.
From strengthening connections between year groups to gaining valuable operational insight and learning from experienced clinicians, our first month in full-swing has showcased the society’s commitment to supporting student development.
Beginning of Year Social – 28th January 2026
Our year kicked off with a lively Beginning of Year Social at the Lord High Constable of England in Gloucester, welcoming around 50–60 students from all three year groups. The event created a positive and inclusive atmosphere, allowing members to connect, share experiences, and build relationships across cohorts.
With plenty of conversation, laughter, and the opportunity for a “cheeky beer or two,” the evening was a great success.
Fire Station Visit – 4th February 2026
Ten of our members had the opportunity to visit Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service for an insightful station tour. The students were warmly welcomed and gained valuable exposure to the service’s equipment and operational capabilities.
The visit also provided firefighters with an additional training opportunity, creating a mutually beneficial learning environment. Of particular interest was the detailed explanation of specialist tools used in the management of bariatric patients, offering students a deeper understanding of inter-agency collaboration and patient care in complex situations.
Advanced Paramedic Seminar – 9th February 2026
We were delighted to host Advanced Paramedic Ty Jewell, who delivered an inspiring and informative seminar at the university. Ty shared his impressive career journey, from serving as a British Army Medic to becoming Medical Director of The Soteria Group, an organisation specialising in rescue, medical training, and operational research.
The session provided in-depth insight into major trauma and mass casualty management, alongside valuable reflections on resilience, and professional development. Students found the seminar highly engaging and appreciated the opportunity to learn from such extensive real-world experience.
Looking Ahead
These events highlight the Student Paramedic Society’s commitment to building strong social connections, enhancing clinical knowledge, and supporting professional development. We are also very pleased to have been awarded “Most Engaged Society” for January, recognising the enthusiasm and involvement of our members.
With more exciting opportunities in the works for the coming months, we look forward to continuing this momentum and supporting our members throughout their student journey.
