It was a roaring party at Cheltenham Town Hall on Wednesday 7th May as the SU Student Awards 2025 took us back in time with a glamorous 1920s speakeasy theme – a night full of energy, joy, and celebration of the incredible achievements within the University of Gloucestershire student community.
Organised by the Students' Union and led by the Activities and Communities team, the evening brought together students, staff, coaches, and support workers to reflect on another extraordinary year. With toe-tapping swing tunes from Dizzie, the UoG Music Society’s live jazz band, and a buzzing atmosphere from start to finish, the night was a true celebration of the people who make UoG shine.
The SU Awards work through a student-led nomination process, where heartfelt submissions are sent in by peers and reviewed by an anonymous panel to ensure fair, unbiased decisions. This method is what makes the awards so special – they’re built on the voices of students themselves, offering a real and honest reflection of the year, the community, and the people who’ve made a difference.

And what a collection of nominations we had! From societies that sparked connection and creativity to individuals who went the extra mile to support others, the passion and pride pouring through the nominations was clear. The awards remind us just how important and vibrant our student-led communities are.
A special thank you goes to Matthew Andrews, UoG Chief Operating Officer, who opened the ceremony with a warm and thoughtful speech about university life, setting the tone for a night of recognition and reflection.
A huge shout-out also goes to SU Officer Ness Garret, who led the awards with enthusiasm, warmth, and brilliant hosting – helping to make the night feel personal, inclusive, and full of joy.
Awards were handed out across a range of categories, each highlighting exceptional contributions from individuals and groups alike. A surprise performance by a magician delighted guests during the evening, adding a spark of wonder to an already unforgettable event.

Students showed up in full speakeasy style – sparkles, feathers, black tie, and vintage flair filled the hall, adding to the festive and theatrical spirit of the evening.
