Earlier this week, Men’s Rugby Union brought energy, humour, and a sense of community spirit to Park Campus this month with their annual Tash Bash fundraising event in support of Movember. The initiative, which champions men’s mental health, suicide prevention, testicular cancer, and prostate cancer awareness, saw players and supporters unite for an evening of fun, fundraising, and unforgettable moments. By the end of the event, the team had raised an impressive £2,000.
The rugby boys set up stalls at each campus for students to pick up their iconic Tash Bash shirts. The designs, created to celebrate Movember’s iconic moustache theme, had students proudly wearing them throughout the day. The shirts not only boosted fundraising totals but also helped spark important conversations about men’s health.
One of the most talked-about moments came during the head-shaving auction. Several brave members of the rugby squad stepped forward to sacrifice their hair for a good cause, offering their locks to the highest bidders. The friendly competition between teams and individuals contributed to the electric atmosphere, as supporters cheered on their friends and tried to outbid each other.
To keep the excitement going, the team hosted a raffle packed with popular prizes. Students had the chance to win food vouchers, a classic (if not a slightly questionable choice) meal deal, a dart board, and bottles of wine and prosecco. These prizes helped boost the total throughout the event.
As well as the auction, there were dance performances, karaoke, and a speech on the unity and friendship from the Rugby Union Team that definitely pulled on a few heartstrings. Beyond raising money, Tash Bash succeeded in bringing students together around an important cause, highlighting the positive impact that sports clubs can have both on and off the pitch.
