Last week, the students were treated to an affordable styling experience when a pop-up salon set up on Park campus. The event, organised in partnership with The Libertine, aimed to make haircuts more accessible to students while promoting inclusivity and wellbeing.
For the day, The Living Room was transformed into a temporary salon, complete with mirrors, chairs, and two professional stylists from The Libertine. Their barbershop, based in Cheltenham, is a registered Safe Space for LGBTQIA+ individuals - creating an environment where everyone, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, can feel comfortable and respected while getting their hair cut.
Many students expressed appreciation for both the affordability and the welcoming atmosphere of the event. Haircuts were priced significantly lower than the usual industry rates, at just £10, easing the financial strain many students face. The barbers also handed out discount cards for students to book with them in future.
Given the overwhelmingly positive response, organisers are already discussing the possibility of making the pop-up salon a regular feature on campus. Beyond just haircuts, this highlighted how accessible self-care opportunities can positively impact student wellbeing.
