The start of a new term means one thing: societies are back, and there’s never been a better time to get involved. The Welcome Back Fayre brought together a brilliant mix of communities and interests, giving students the chance to reconnect with familiar faces or try something completely new. Whether you’re looking to socialise, relax, or explore a passion, this term’s Welcome Back sessions have something for everyone.

Among the societies at the Welcome Back Fayre were Tabletop Society, Book Club, Social Issues Society, Taylor Swift Society, Christian Union, Marxist Society and Islamic Society. Each society showcased what they’re all about, and more importantly, how you can get involved this term.

Tabletop Society is starting things off with a special collaborative session alongside local games company Ginger Fox. This Welcome Back event is perfect for both seasoned players and complete beginners, offering the chance to try out new games, meet fellow tabletop gamers, and support a local creative business. It’s a relaxed and social way to dive back in after the break.

Islamic Society are welcoming members with a bonfire and BBQ, creating a warm and inclusive space to socialise, reflect, and enjoy good food together before Ramadan starts later this month. This event is designed to bring people together at the start of term, whether you’re already part of the society or just curious to learn more about what they offer.

Paramedic Society is also offering an exciting and varied start to the term, with two Welcome Back events planned. They have held a pub meet-up, providing a relaxed social setting to unwind, chat, and get to know others on the course. Alongside this, the society is organising a visit to a fire and rescue station, giving students a valuable opportunity to learn more about emergency services and see professional practice in action.

With so many Welcome Back sessions happening, now is the perfect time to join a society, try something new, and make the most of the term ahead. Whatever your interests, there’s a society ready to welcome you back.
