The 3 SU officers sat together outside - Iffat, Freya and Bianca

Freya Rowley - Activities and Opportunities Officer

This week I attended the BUCS Conference in Hull, where I had the chance to meet other sabbatical sports officers from across the country. It was a great few days of sharing ideas, attending workshops, and getting inspired from some of the best Olympic athletes! I’ve come away with loads of exciting ideas, specifically surrounding student leader training and social media. I’ve also been working closely with some of our sports clubs on planning creative and engaging events for the Welcome Week.

Bianca Holland - Education and Community Officer

This week I met with developers to explore how JISC analytics can help us spot early signs of disengagement, ensuring students get the support they need. Planning is underway for September’s Opportunities Fair with Gloucester BID it will be a fun event linking students with local businesses, part-time jobs, and community activities. We’re exploring walking tours and scavenger hunts to help new students feel welcome in Gloucester. Iffat and I attended Academic Board, making sure that any changes discussed truly considered the student perspective. In addition, I was involved in interviews to recruit a person into the SU staff team! Everything I’ve worked on this week is about improving student experience and building connections in the communities.

Iffat Jahan - Welfare and Diversity Officer

It’s been a busy and productive week! I’ve been developing the campaign, which aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students. I’ve also started planning the welcome event for the September intake to make sure new students feel at home right from the start. I attended the Academic Board meeting to represent student voices in key discussions and helped shortlist candidates for the SU Student Advisor role to ensure strong and compassionate support for our community.
