We all know that here at UoG we value our inclusive sports culture hugely. Each year, hundreds of new students join out clubs and we want to make sure that the culture we all shape leads to an amazing student experience. On Thursday 5th June, our Sports Development Coordinator joined the University's Director of Student Experience, along with Head of Sport and Active Life, in London for the inaugural BUCS Club Culture Summit.

The event brought together over 100 sports leaders from across the UK, from institutions to National Governing Bodiess, to open up important conversations around negative club cultures and want part we all play in shaping postive cultures. The focus was on developing a collective approach to addressing harmful and toxic behaviours within student sport.

During the summit, UoG's Director of Student Experience shared insights into the challenges we have previously faced, alongside the proactive steps the University of Gloucestershire and UoGSU are taking to create a safer, more inclusive sporting environment. A series of expert panels explored key themes in depth, providing valuable perspectives and promoting meaningful reflection.

As we ahead towards September 2026 and the next round of student leaders taking up their roles in our sports clubs we look forward to building on these insights and working closely with our student leaders to shape a positive, safe and inclusive culture across all of our sports clubs.
