Over the past few months, we have been working hard to develop our Advice Service to benefit and support you with any issues you may be facing.

During our Welcome Fayre, you may have met a new face in the team, our new Advisor Lucy. Lucy is an ex-teacher, with a love of tattoos and travel, who has an immense drive to empower students to advocate for themselves.

As part of the Welcome Fayre, Lucy was asking you which areas you may need the most support in when approaching the academic year.  You estimated that the Cost of Living and Wellbeing were areas that will require the most advice, slightly ahead of Academic Issues, which was also a strong candidate for needing support. All these areas are things that we have in mind when creating resources and drop ins aimed at supporting you to live your University life unlocked. So, keep a look out on our socials and the website for targeted advice that may benefit you throughout the year.

Following this research, we got to work on rebranding our service with our very own Glossy making a cameo.  A new Advisor, a fresh look, paired with a welcoming Advice space means we are ready to give you the support and advice you may need.

The aim of the Advice Service has always been to give independent and confidential advice, support and guidance to students that are facing difficulties during their university journey.  For those of you that may have accessed the service before, we have altered our processes slightly. We will now be using a triage system to ensure that we are prioritising meeting with or supporting students with time sensitive cases, whilst signposting and referring you to other services if needed, in an efficient manner. A polite reminder that we do not operate as a crisis service; if you have an urgent issue please seek emergency support.

If you feel that there is something you need advice with you can get in contact with us in two different ways:

Or, you can come along to our first drop in of the year, this is targeted at those of you who may struggle with Christmas time or the prospect of the Christmas break. On Tuesday 9th December, the Park Campus SU Advice Room will be a safe haven for anyone that may need a space to talk, relax or get advice surrounding the Christmas period.
