Our recent Society & Club Elections have officially ended, and we want to say a huge thank you to every student who got involved.
It was fantastic to see all the engagement across our student groups, with so many new members stepping forward to join committees and become the next generation of student leaders. We also love to see returning committee members rerun for positions and gain the confidence of their groups once again through re-election, continuing to build that relationship further with the SU.
Being part of a committee is not only a brilliant social experience and a chance to make lifelong friendships, but it is also an incredible opportunity for professional development. Running a society or club helps students build valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, event management, budgeting, organisation, marketing and problem solving, all experiences that can make a real difference for future careers and personal growth.
This year, we had an great turnout of 468 voters taking part in the elections. Thank you to everyone who voted, nominated themselves or encouraged others to get involved. While this is something to celebrate, we know we can always do even better. Your voices, opinions and votes are what shape the future of your clubs and societies, so we encourage all members to engage with committee elections and have their say from the very beginning.
We are also excited to welcome 3 new clubs and 4 new societies joining our student communities next academic year. We cannot wait to see these new groups grow and all future cross over collaborations!
As with all elections, some groups unfortunately come to an end when no students choose to rerun or step forward for committee positions. We would like to thank all outgoing committees and members from our closing societies for the communities they created and the impact they had on student life. We hope to see some of these groups return in the future. students can always adopt a society here https://www.uogsu.com/societies/adoptasoc/ or even start something completely new.
Congratulations again to all elected committee members, and thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s elections such a success. We are excited to see what the next academic year brings for our student communities.
