Nearly 80 student leaders from across Clubs and Societies came together at Park Campus for Student Leaders Training 2.0 on Thursday 5th February an evening focused on celebrating success, strengthening leadership skills and preparing for an exciting semester ahead.
The session brought together a wide mix of student group leaders, reflecting the breadth of activity across UoGSU. Alongside SU staff, student leaders also took to the stage to share the work they’ve been delivering this year, offering practical insight and inspiration to peers.
A key theme of the evening was culture - what it means within student groups and how leaders help shape it. Discussions focused on creating communities where students feel they belong, supporting each other to succeed, and making sure groups are welcoming and inclusive for all. Leaders explored real-life scenarios reinforcing the important role committees play in modelling behaviour and building positive environments.
The session also recognised the huge impact student groups are already making. Leaders reflected on membership growth, some great activities already delivered and fundraising success so far this year. Alongside this, updates were shared on TeamGlos Points which continues to reward engagement across Clubs and Socs.
Supporting sustainable leadership was another major focus. Leaders explored how to recognise and manage burnout, with practical conversations about self-care, celebrating wins and building supportive committee cultures - all part of ensuring student leaders can continue delivering brilliant experiences for their members.
The event also looked ahead to an amazing second term, with updates on Varsity 2026, SU Elections and the SU Awards.
Training like this is part of UoGSU’s ongoing commitment to supporting student leaders to succeed. By investing in development, sharing best practice and creating space for leaders to learn from each other, we can continue to grow the incredible range of activities, communities and opportunities that make student life at UoG special.
