AGM for short by the way...

If you have ever thought “someone should do something about that”, the SU AGM is exactly the place where that thought can turn into action. The AGM is not just a formal annual general meeting tucked away in the calendar. It is one of the clearest chances students have to shape what their union focuses on, how it represents students, and what issues get taken seriously in the year ahead. This year’s online AGM takes place at 3:30pm on Tuesday 5th May 2026, which means it is easy to join from wherever you are and be part of the conversation.
For UoG students, this matters because the Students’ Union exists to represent you. That includes the big picture stuff like student voice, student democracy and accountability, but it also connects directly to everyday student life. If you care about academics, cost of living, mental health and wellbeing, societies, sports, inclusion, course representation, campus life or how students are listened to, the student AGM is relevant to you. These meetings help set direction. They are where students can question, challenge, support and influence what happens next at UoG SU.
If the idea of an AGM sounds dry or intimidating, it really does not need to be. You do not have to know governance language or understand every bit of union policy to take part. The online AGM is there for students, not experts. Turning up, listening, voting and speaking up all matter. It is a space where your experience as a student counts, because you are the reason the union exists in the first place.
One of the most important ways to get involved is to submit a motion. A motion is simply a proposal from students about something they want the union to discuss, support, change or act on. It could be a concern, an idea, or a practical suggestion linked to student life at UoG. If there is an issue you think needs attention, submitting a motion is a real way to put it on the agenda and push it into the heart of student democracy.
The deadline to submit a motion is Friday 24th April 2026, and that is tomorrow, so this is the moment to act if something is on your mind. The AGM is your chance to raise what matters to you and be part of decisions that affect students across the university. Join us online at 3:30pm on 5th May 2026, and if you have an idea worth backing, submit a motion before tomorrow’s deadline. Your voice matters, and UoG SU should hear it.
