With this year’s theme, Science and Innovation, we've made a noticeboard that encouraged students to reflect on the incredible contributions LGBTQIA+ individuals have made to scientific discovery, technological advancement, and innovative thinking throughout history.
To celebrate LGBTQIA+ History Month, we recently hosted a creative badge-making event that brought students together in a relaxed and welcoming space. The event welcomed a fantastic mix of attendees. Some students came along specifically for the badge-making session, keen to get involved and celebrate the month, while others dropped in after spotting the activity taking place in the space. This created a lovely, open atmosphere in The Living Room at Park.
We provided a range of pre-made templates inspired by the theme, featuring pronoun badges and pride flags, so everyone can be proud to show who they are, and proud to show the history that got us to this point. These templates were a great starting point for those who wanted inspiration or preferred a guided design. Alongside these, we also offered blank badges, giving students complete creative freedom to design something personal and meaningful to them.
Overall, the badge-making session was a simple yet effective way to mark LGBTQIA+ History Month. It combined creativity, education, and community spirit, and reminded us that science and innovation thrive when everyone is able be proudly themselves.
