SU Student Awards 2024

We are thrilled to announce some major enhancements to our annual Awards Ceremonies this year.
After carefully considering your feedback and suggestions, we're delighted to unveil the all-new SU Student Awards, a unified celebration that combines the best of both worlds – the Gnomies and the Sports Awards which will be hosted at Cheltenham Town Hall!
So, mark your calendars for Wednesday 8th May and keep an eye on our social for more announcements.

What are the SU Student Awards?

The SU Student Awards are an inclusive awards ceremony for all UoG students hosted at Cheltenham Town Hall. It’s an evening to celebrate and honour all your amazing achievements over the last year at UoG with your friends and fellow students.
Think of it as our version of the Oscars – you're encouraged to dress to impress because this night is all about glitz and glam, yes, there will be a red carpet for you to make your entrance on!
The evening kicks off with a warm welcome from our SU team, followed by the highlight of the night – the awards ceremony. Winners will be invited to the stage to accept their award and be congratulated for their achievements.

But it's not just about the formalities! The night also entails a delicious dinner included in your ticket price, as well as table wine.
After all awards have been presented, the celebrations will kick up a notch as we move into the second part of the venue, equipped with a dance floor, DJ and bar!
The evening will conclude at midnight, with an after-party being hosted at Moo’s Cheltenham, for those who want to continue the celebrations into the early hours!

Is the SU Student Awards exclusive to members of Sports Clubs and Societies?

Not at all, the SU Student Awards embrace the entire student body at UoG. Whether you're involved in a Club or a Society, work with the Students’ Union or a university team, or contribute to the student community in any capacity, this Awards Ceremony is for you. It's an inclusive event, welcoming everyone regardless of their affiliations.

Regardless of whether you've been shortlisted or not, all students are encouraged to attend. Join us to show your support and celebrate the achievements of your peers and the vibrant UoG community as a whole!

Why the changes?!?!

Why have you combined the ceremonies?

Attendees expressed that last year's events felt somewhat segregated, and we believe that combining them into one inclusive ceremony will enhance the sense of community and celebration. This decision to merge the Gnomies and the Sports Awards into one event, aptly named the SU Student Awards, reflects our commitment to fostering a truly inclusive community at UoG, where every student feels recognised and celebrated!

Why have you changed the Date?

With assessment week commencing the W/C 20th May, moving the date forward ensures that everyone can participate fully without any academic concerns. Your engagement and enjoyment are our top priorities! The SU Student Awards will be taking place on Wednesday 8th May from 6pm – 12am.

Why have you changed the venue?

Your feedback on last year's venue was invaluable, highlighting the need for a venue that truly sets the stage for celebration, as well as one with better transport links, and we couldn't agree more.  This is why we are relocating Awards to the prestigious Cheltenham Town Hall as it provides the perfect backdrop for our SU Student Awards, offering a more inviting atmosphere for all attendees, plus, it’s right in the heart of Cheltenham Town Centre, so should be a lot more accessible, and it’s on the doorstep for the unforgettable Moo’s After Party!

Why have you changed the structure of the event?

his year, we wanted to make the ceremony more than just a formal affair. By transforming the event into a dynamic celebration, we're aiming to create an unforgettable experience for everyone. The first half will feature the traditional awards presentation, where we honour outstanding achievements and contributions. But wait, there's more! In the second half, we're turning up the volume and kicking off a lively celebration with a DJ and dance floor! This new structure ensures that the Awards Ceremony isn't just about recognition – it's about joy, camaraderie, and making memories that will last a lifetime!
