Hi, I'm Eli Hayter, a third year illustration student and I am standing to be your next welfare officer. Last academic year I was awarded subject representative of the year and this academic year I am working as part of the equality and diversity team within Human Resources. Both of these areas focus on listening to, and acting in the best interests of, students to constantly move the university forward on the welfare agenda.
So, what will I do?
1) We are Not Just Numbers
· I will enforce the fact that we, as students, are humans and individuals and not just a number, percentage or figure.
· I will campaign for students to be as little affected as little as possible when it comes to discussing budget cuts. Your welfare is way more important than saving money.
2) Every Student
· I will always think about every student.
· I will always consider race, sexuality, gender, age, disability and religion to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities.
· I will continue my work making the university more LGBT+ friendly
· I will continue the Students Union amazing work on mental health awareness and support.
As I have personal experience of the benefits from the support and increased awareness on these issues, I understand the importance of providing information and support to all.
3) Student Voice
· I want everyone to be able to speak up and not only to be listened to, but also heard.
· I will do everything I can to help tackle any problems and to direct you to the best support.
· This also means continuing the things you guys love!
If elected, I will be YOUR welfare officer and my work will be directed by you.
