Does saving the planet seem overwhelming?

My name's Pip Lloyd, I'm a 22 year old Landscape Architecture student and I'm hoping to be your next Ethical and Environmental Experience Officer. It's my passion to think about our planet and although there are many green groups in the university, I want to work with the student union to reach as many students as possible.

I'm not an aggressive activist, I don't blame people for not wanting to give up meat and I understand the desire of Primark and bottles of fizzy drinks. I'm not running to make everyone an eco-friendly poster child, I just want to provide more options and opportunities to adapt your lifestyle to look after the planet without feeling guilty for making mistakes. We're students on a budget and we are more focused on our futures and coursework than our shopping habits right now.

I want us to be able to borrow re-useable water bottles and coffee cups if we leave ours at home, I want us to have group trips to the local zero waste shops and markets, promote cheap and ethical clothing options, and have more charity fundraisers.

I especially want to bring in more projects to get your hands dirty with, whether that's planting trees around Cheltenham or sitting in solitude in your room on your computer. Looking after the environment will always look good on your CV and your conscience. We study so we can make progress in the world, but we need to make sure we're looking after what we already have.
