As you may know I’m Club captain of UOG Netball and have been working part-time for the Students Union alongside my degree.

I am running for this position because I want to increase female participation through the use of recreational sports. I understand commitment to multiple training sessions a week is a lot; however, this shouldn’t stop you from being part of our community. Coming from a club that utilises recreational sides, I know how successful this is. Recreational teams allow you to play the sports you love and be part of one of our many successful clubs. I will work alongside clubs to start up their own recreational sides.

Due to my role this year I was able to work closely with the current sports officer to allow my club to run smoothly. However, I understand for smaller clubs this isn’t always achievable. Therefore, I promise to split my time evenly through each club to ensure everyone is a priority.

I have seen first hand the effects of mental health in sport. Therefore, each club will be expected to appoint their own mental health officer. This person will work with the Helpzone staff to ensure they are giving the best support possible, they will be there solely for communication and guidance. I intend to complete the appropriate mental health training, meaning I am able to put aside a specific open time slot for any mental health related enquiries.

I know my experience running the biggest female club in college has taught me what kind of leader I can be. I’ve learnt how to manage stressful situations while putting others first, something I’d utilise in this role. Representing my Uni has inspired me to go for this position. I’d love the opportunity to push UOG sport to its full potential.
