Candidate for the position of International Students' Network Lead

PEACE N. WOSAH

Being an international student here in the University of Gloucestershire, I have seen what it takes for new students to settle down for their studies. Getting accommodation to settle as a new student does not come that easy, especially for those with family who cannot stay in the school accommodation, but must stay off campus with their family, as school does not offer family accommodation to students. The time it takes to search for accommodation as an international student is a lot. Some of the private landlords do not accept students as tenants in their property, so students get to hear different stories as the search goes on and it can be discouraging at some points.

As a network lead, this gap can be filled by reaching out to the Landlords that accept students and encourage them to come and post their properties in the University. I believe students can settle easily and on time without the unnecessary delay that comes with getting accommodation. It is achievable. Rendering a helping hand and seeing that those in difficult times come out of it as quickly as possible is what I have found myself doing all the time and it gives me a complete joy and peace of mind. Working with the SU would improve my leadership skill.

To achieve this:

1. I will work with the SU

2. Contact the private Landlords by sending out letters through post informing them of advertising their property in the University campuses

3. The vacancies would be posted in a visible and accessible place so students can see it, may be close to the Help Zone or Future Plan office.

Note. This will not in any way affect the school hall that some single students rent as where to stay is obviously that of students’ decision.

Thank You.
