I’m currently a final year cyber forensics student, sit on the SU Exec Committee as the LGBTQ+ Experience Officer, and am excited to be running to be your welfare officer! I feel I have a lot to contribute in terms of ideas and ways to improve engagement for you guys across the university.

Student Wellbeing 

It’s natural to feel pressurised in a uni environment and some find it difficult to adapt, but I aim to help extend the support networks available to students. This includes creating crisis/emergency wellbeing drop-ins and encouraging students not to suffer in silence. I would also campaign for the uni to introduce an opt-in system, where in only the most serious welfare concern cases the uni could contact parents/guardians

Community Feel

Having previously been a Residential Assistant, I realised it should be a higher priority to encourage a community feel for all students and create more opportunities to meet other students. This could be done by supporting the running and promotion of a variety of events, organised by students for students

Increasing Awareness

I also plan to draw attention to issues that affect minority communities. As part of my campaigning during the year, I aim to increase awareness of how the use of certain language can have different meanings for different people. For example, words as simple as ‘gay’ being used in certain ways, can impact fellow students without other students even realising

94U/N94 Bus Route

Currently the 94U and N94 buses only go as far as market parade. I will campaign to extend both routes to Blackfriars/South Gloucester, so students living there can easily attend lectures using the bus, and get home safely after nights out. This may also help reduce parking issues at Oxstalls if more students use the bus
